Clark man killed in Sunday crash
A Winchester man was killed Sunday afternoon when his pickup truck went off the road and struck a tree.
James D. Carpenter, 48, of 6459 Iron Works Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Iron Works Road, according to the accident report at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the report, Carpenter was traveling east when his Ford Ranger went off the road in a curve. The truck then hit the tree in the passenger door.
Investigators noted the truck’s air bag deployed, but it did not appear Carpenter was wearing his seat belt at the time of the impact.
Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue said it appears Carpenter lost control of his truck and left 125 feet of skid marks before it went off the road.
No one else was in the truck and no other vehicles were involved. Perdue said toxicology results are pending.
The crash was reported at 3:54 p.m. and Carpenter was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. by the coroner’s staff, according to the report.
