Blevins named artist of the month
Sun staff report
Jim Blevins has been selected as Artist of the Month by the Art Guild for March.
Blevins has been a Winchester resident for 67 years and has had the great fortune to travel extensively. In his travels he has been inspired by various forms of art.
While serving in the U.S. Navy in East Asia, his lifelong pursuit of martial arts began and has lasted for over 40 years.
After serving his time in the Navy, he was a building contractor for 35 years and was fascinated by geodesic structures such as the home he built for himself.
In addition, the dry-laid stone fences and pillars here in his home state led him to pursue a path of being a dry-laid stonemason for the past 25 years.
His love of the outdoors has always been a main focus in his work. He enjoys using pen and ink background as well as carving and sculpture.
Over the past 25 years, he has immersed himself in creating stained glass pieces, from full windows to hanging pieces that catch the light.
Music and art have impacted his life in many aspects and he is glad to share it with others.
Please join the Guild in a reception celebrating the works of Jim Blevins on Thursday, March 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Artisan Gifts and Gallery, 18 W. Lexington Ave.
Meet Jim and see his wonderful work.
