Maxine Black Tackett, 78
Maxine Black Tackett, age 78, of Winchester, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 at her daughter’s residence in Winchester.
Born Tuesday, October 17, 1939 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Melvin & Cynthia Pittman Black.
Maxine was the widow of the late Alben Barkley Tackett, whom she married August 15, 1954 and preceded her in death July 6, 2018.
Maxine worked as the Deputy Director of the Winchester Housing Authority for many years and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church.
Maxine loved her granddaughters, family and pets. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, sewing, reading, and making care packages for those in need.
One of her most cherished memories was singing gospel music with her sister, Midge, in churches throughout the county.
Maxine leaves behind one son, Johnny Alben Tackett of Winchester; one daughter, Debra Lynn Sleightholm (James) of Winchester; two granddaughters, Sara Maxine Sleightholm and Amanda Grace Sleightholm both of Winchester; three sisters, Mildred Young (Joseph) of Dayton, Ohio, Christine Howard of Somerset, Kentucky, and Wilma Jean Young of Loveland, Ohio; and one half-sister, Kaye Timmerman of Nebraska.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde Black, Melvin Black, Jr., Arnold Black, and Donald Black (infant); one half-brother, Eugene Wilson; and one half-sister, Vernice Hardwick.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Jones officiating the service. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery.
The Visitation will be held 6-8PM Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the funeral home.
