A long-time county employee has been suspended following her arrest Sunday on theft and forgery charges.

Jennifer Paige Adkins, 41, of 22 Moundale Ave., is charged with one county of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 and 17 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument for allegedly forging names on checks, according to court records.

According to court documents, the thefts allegedly began in December 2016 from the Clark County Fiscal Court’s Emergency Planning Committee fee account. Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham said the program uses state funds, but the county received the statements. Branham said he and county financial officials noticed discrepancies and took it to the county attorney.

According to the sheriff’s office, Adkins allegedly wrote 12 checks from that account to herself and forged signatures on the remaining 17 checks, which required two signatures.

Adkins was the only person with access to the account and was recorded on surveillance video depositing the checks into her personal bank account.

Adkins has been a county employee since 2001, Branham said, though she is paid with state funds. She has been suspended without pay beginning Monday morning.
