Shearer Elementary School students got golden tickets Wednesday.

The Shearer Musical Theatre Alumni Choir, made up of 13 former Shearer musical cast members, sang and danced with golden tickets in hand in the Shearer gym during the 2020 Musical Reveal Party, instantly giving away the 2020 musical: “Willy Wonka KIDS.”

Students and parents erupted in cheers as colored confetti rained down over the performers.

Collin Berner, music teacher and director of Shearer Musical Theatre, said he was excited to see so many families of current and former students show out to the reveal party Wednesday.

“Families are here who don’t have children that go to Shearer anymore, and they’re here for the reveal, that’s awesome,” Berner said.

Families gathered to mingle, eat Little Caesars pizza and finally find out the long-awaited news of next year’s musical. Families could also purchase Shearer Musical Theatre alumni t-shirts.

“We’ve made this a big community thing,” Berner said.

Shearer will begin preparing for the 2020 show in the coming months, and will once again perform at the Leeds Center for the Arts.

“Thank you to our friends at the Leeds Center for the Arts,” Berner told the crowd. “They are once again allowing us to use their space, so we’re super excited.”
