Wellness challenge winners named

Winners were announced for the 2018 Clark County Wellness Challenge Saturday at the Community Health Fair Saturday at the Clark Regional Medical Center.

The female winners were in order from first to third are BreAnn Walters, lost 11 percent of body weight, Misty Allman, lost 10.7 percent of body weight and Judy Mohr, lost 8.8 percent of body weight.

The male winners were in order from first to third Dane Garner, lost 15.1 percent of body weight, Troy Howton, lost 12 percent of body weight and Kenneth Sawyers, lost 7 percent of body weight.

Winners were calculated by who lost the most significant percentage of body weight. Winners received various Fitbits, Amazon gift cards ranging in price and the top winners in the male and female categories also received a one year membership to the College Park Gym.

Participants became eligible for prizes if they weigh in five times and attend five different classes.

The challenge, sponsored by the Clark County Activity Coalition, began March 7 and ended May 16. The Clark County Wellness Challenge is a 10-week countywide event meant to encourage physical wellness and health education in Clark County. Residents ages 12 and over of Clark and surrounding counties were invited to attend, according to its website.

Included with the program were group fitness classes at College Park gym, free classes at The OM Place, CrossFit Strode Station, The Barre: A Fitness Boutique; discount punch cards at Cairn Coffee House and Gaunce’s Deli and Cafe and more.

There were about 566 participants this year. The program has been around for about eight years.

Participants were asked to weigh-in every Wednesday throughout the challenge.
